Earthing Systems

All homes & commercial premises have earthing conductors fitted. 
The earthing system comprises of:
1: Main conductor 
2: equipotential bonding 
3: supplementary bonding & 
4: CPC integral with cables.  

Under normal conditions these conductors do not carry any current, but because of this they are sometimes disregarded when houses are rewired, with the old inadequate cables left in place.

Earthing is required for the safe & correct operation of fuses/circuit breakers.

Gas & water pipes need to be earthed at the point where the meter is installed. Boilers & immersion heaters need to have all the pipes bonded together. I can check your earthing system for compliance with the current IEE regulations.

Agricultural premises and isolated properties often have a different earthing system.
