Miniature circuit breakers (MCB's) The new consumer unit is safer and easier to operate. Paul Yates Electrical usually fit miniature circuit breakers (MCB's) as they are cost-effective, easy to use and do not need any spare fuses to be kept and fitted. Some homes have 60 Amp consumer units installed. Most domestic peak-demand will exceed this rating and I always fit 100 Amp rated units. Many homes will require the added protection of a RCD (Residual Current Device). These very sensitive circuit breakers offer a different kind of protection from that provided by fuses and miniature circuit breakers (MCB's). When a RCD is used in conjunction with MCB's, you and your home will have the maximum protection possible.
