Domestic electricity,     What to do if ......

What to do if ......your sockets all cease to work....

If your ceiling lights still work and your socket outlets do not, then it is most likely that the Ring main fuse/ circuit breaker has blown/ tripped.

If you have fuses then replace any blown fuse/ fuse wire. -----OR
If you have a R.C.D. then click here
If you have circuit breakers then you will be able to see if any have tripped and reset them.

If the problem or fault was transitory, then your fuse/circuit breaker can be reset and will allow the circuit to
 function as normal.
If however the fault is still present then the fuse/ circuit breaker will blow/trip again (indeed circuit breakers can actually  resist being reset, if the fault condition is still present and you will probably need to call a qualified electrician.

Most household sockets are connected to ring main circuits, usually protected by a 30 Amp fuse or 32 Amp circuit breaker.
